Amsterdam Art Week 2025 Starts 23 May

During Amsterdam Art Week, on Friday 23 May the Amsterdam Museum welcomes you for the special evening opening ‘AM Late – Women of Amsterdam’. This evening focuses on the theme of intergenerational storytelling. Surprise and inspire yourself by a broad program full of different elements such as guided tours, performances, workshops and conversations with makers and thinkers.

Throughout the evening, you are free to join the various programme elements at your own pace and interest.

  • The evening opens with the launch of a new mini-exhibition by actress, writer, and maker Gaite Jansen, presenting her immersive experience How You Were Never Born, exploring themes of rebirth and transformation.Unleash your creativity during the workshop ‘Creating Odes – Silhouette of Amsterdam’. Drop by, take a seat, and bring the story of a woman who is important to you to life through shapes and imagery instead of just words — contributing to a collective artwork that enriches the narrative of Amsterdam.Affect Lab hosts the interactive Gossip Session – Bloody Beautiful, inviting you to help break the taboo around menstruation and open space for new perspectives.Actress, writer, and theatre maker Dilan Yurdakul offers an exclusive preview of her new exhibition: De Stille Vrouw (The Silent Woman).During the artist talk, designer Mina Abouzahra discusses her work featured in the exhibition Women of Amsterdam – an ode. Together with moderator Dymphie Braun, she explores core themes in her practice: connection, transmission, female heritage, and the value of craftsmanship.Throughout the evening, you can join guided tours of the exhibition Women of Amsterdam – an ode, and listen to live ode recitations by writers.

Intergenerational storytelling connects generations and helps make sense of historical and cultural context. But it also helps preserve traditions and arouses feelings of empathy. By sharing stories, people can not only learn about the past, but also reflect on the present and draw possible lessons for the future.

All the program elements build on the theme of intergenerational storytelling and take place in the context of the exhibition Women of Amsterdam – an ode.
