On Friday, May 13, Oude Kerk organizes a special morning programme. Curator Marianna van der Zwaag and director Mariëtte Dölle will take you through artist Antonio Obá’s new site-specific installation, Path. During an in-depth walk with coffee you will learn more about the creation and background of the work and the artist.
Path plays with the meaning of religious icons and reflects on the changing significance of rituals. Obá’s installation also examines the effect of the colonial past on today’s world and shows the complex connection between various cultural traditions in society and the visual arts.
Obá lives and works in Brazil. His artistic practice consists of perfromances in addition to sculpture and painting. He studied Fine Arts at the Faculdade de Artes Dulcina de Moraes in Brasilia. His work is included in collections of Tate Modern London, Bourse de Commerce Pinault Collection Paris, MAM São Paulo, among others. Path is Obá’s first major solo project in the Netherlands.
Would you like to participate? A ticket costs 15 euros, including entrance. If you have a Museumcard, you only pay a surcharge of 3 euros for the talk. For Amsterdam Art Week professionals the programme is free. Language: Dutch/English.
