BorzoGallery presents Echo by Ronald Zuurmond. The exhibition runs from 13th September to 13th October 2024. The official opening takes place on Friday, 13th September, from 5pm to 8pm. On 14th September, the gallery will be open from 1pm to 6pm.
In this new series of paintings, Ronald Zuurmond elevates his exploration of the significance of form, colour, and texture to a new level. For the first time, he removes all traces of figuration, yet there is never any doubt that we are looking at his work, evident through the distinctive layering, the scraping of paint, and the textures on the surface.
Zuurmond speaks about the music of American jazz pianist Keith Jarrett, whom he admires. Jarrett has said about his famous improvisation concert The Köln Concert from 1975 that the music “must go as quickly as it comes,” which, according to Zuurmond, explains that his music has no ulterior motives and that merely playing it gives it its existence. “The paintings have value simply because they exist and do not seek to argue or comment.” This neutrality is further emphasised by working in a series; the distinction between the works exists only in the eyes of the viewer, not in the artist’s perspective.
