For Amsterdam Art Week’s West Night, please join If I Can’t Dance on Saturday 24 May in welcoming ‘Voice as Landscape,’ a two-part gathering around the topic of ‘correspondence’, composed by Lorenzo García-Andrade and Alec Matteo.

The first part will take place on Friday 23 May at Perdu´s theatre, featuring an evening with the work of Enrico Dau Yang Wey, Derica Shields, and Raoni Muzho Saleh. For the second part, on Saturday 24 May, the programme aims to travel into a different mode of time. It is an invitation to spend a day together, experiencing a gathering of practices that extend beyond the temporality of art institutions into the materializations of time in daily life: through eating, changes of light, mood, and places. The programme will begin in the Vondelpark and then move to If I Can´t Dance’s space in the Wilhelmina Gasthuis-terrain and its surrounding green spaces.

The programme begins in the afternoon in the Vondelpark with an offering of food created by cooks Kaixin Chen and Sankrit Kulmanochawong, followed by a guided collective siesta by artist Aitana Cordero. The gathering will then move gently to the WG-terrain to experience the ongoing exploration by artists María Jerez and Élan D´Orphium into imaginaries of inter-species communication. With the change of light, the programme moves inside, into the If I Can’t Dance theater for a dance performance by artist duo Kike García and Jesús, and culminates with a concert by artist, musician and composer Phantom Wizard.

Voice as Landscape is a performance platform focused on the relationships between body, vibration and territory. It curates interdisciplinary programmes, produces works and organizes community gatherings for artistic exchange. It is also an editorial line at Perdu, where it explores poetic experimentation beyond verbal language and into other fields. Voice as Landscape is initiated and curated by Alec Mateo and Lorenzo García-Andrade. This year, Voice as Landscape is working with the notion of ‘correspondence’, both as a theme and as methodology.
