Five artists, living and/or working in Amsterdam Zuidoost, created new work for this special exhibition. With Local Heroes, CBK Zuidoost stimulates the local art climate in Amsterdam Zuidoost by providing a platform for local creators.
The arts scene in the Bijlmer is evolving. More and more artists are finding their way to this side of the city. With creative hubs like Heesterveld, Florijn, De Kazerne, Open Ateliers Kraaiennest, and stARTwell, space for visual artists has increased in Zuidoost over the past decades. The number of artists is expected to continue growing in the coming years as well. This is partly due to vacant office buildings that will be converted to housing in the near future. Before these buildings are demolished, they temporarily stand empty, creating new opportunities for artists and allowing the cultural ecosystem to expand.
During the exhibition, there will be an Art Café on Saturday 23 March, featuring an extensive guided tour. This means that the participating artists will each explain their work in their own way. You can now register for this special event – capacity is limited so be quick!
