On Saturday, 12th October from 15:00 to 20:00, the duo exhibition Love for Sale, featuring the work of Susanne Khalil Yusef and WONNE, will open at GoMulan Gallery. The exhibition will run until Sunday, 17th November.

Artist couple Susanne Khalil Yusef and WONNE lived together for eight years and, like many artist couples, inspired each other’s work. They lived among their creations, some of which they made together: a ceramic barbecue, flower pots, a fountain, furniture, cushions, sculptures, and paintings. After eight years, life took a new turn, and their relationship came to an end. A selection of objects from their shared living space, which testify to their love for each other, are displayed in the Love for Sale exhibition as a domestic installation at GoMulan Gallery. Visitors are invited to wander through this ‘museum of love’ and imagine how the objects were used. In addition to this total artwork (gesamtkunstwerk), Khalil Yusef and WONNE will also be showing their individual works.

Susanne Khalil Yusef (b. 1984) creates work that reflects her Palestinian background. In her art, she incorporates events that she or those close to her have experienced. Khalil Yusef produces vibrant installations, including murals, paintings, textiles, ceramics, video, performances, bronze sculptures, and self-created archives. At first glance, Khalil Yusef’s brightly coloured work appears light-hearted and playful, but a closer look reveals references to displacement, identity, and socio-geographical power dynamics.

WONNE (b. 1996) lives and works in Nijmegen. WONNE’s sculptures are similarly expressive and colourful, using a variety of materials and techniques, such as ceramic sculptures, drawings on paper, paintings, and digital works. His approach is intuitive, bringing to life everything that flows from his imagination. The result is a collection of endearing and rebellious figures. WONNE’s spontaneous method and defiance evoke the COBRA movement. Fittingly, a new series of his ceramic work will be on display at the COBRA Museum in Amstelveen from October onwards.
