Every year on the 1st of July, we commemorate slavery and celebrate the abolition of slavery: Keti Koti. In the month prior to this day, we show new work by artist and graphic designer Mirelle van Tulder on the windows of Buro Stedelijk’s Studio Space facing the Paulus Potterstraat.
In response to the invitation, Mirelle van Tulder, founder of Roots to Fruits, decided to focus on archival material of (unacknowledged) feminist groups in The Netherlands. The collages on the windows show images of feminist publishers, women in resistance, and documentary photographs of Keti Koti celebrations and commemorations throughout the decades.
On the July 1, Buro Stedelijk will be closed, as we take the day off to celebrate freedom and commemorate slavery. Mirelle’s work will also be placed at the restricted entrance of Buro Stedelijk’s Central Space on the 1st of July.
