tegenboschvanvreden is happy to announce a special intermezzo in their programming! In the fall of 2025, Hamza Halloubi (1982, Tangier, Morocco) will have a solo presentation at the De Pont museum in Tilburg. To festively highlight his work, Hamza has put together a special ON DEMAND program with five of his video works, during the weekend of March 22 and 23Nature Morte (2014), Un après midi à Larache(2015-2016), Walking and Talking (2018-2019), Messing Encounters (2020-2021) and Bégaiements (2020-2021)

tegenboschvanvreden would like to invite you to come and view this special program in the gallery while enjoying a snack and a drink. On Saturday March 22, this is possible between 13:00 and 18:00, and on Sunday March 23 from 14:00 to 17:00.

The gallery is looking forward to welcoming you!

The stories in Hamza Halloubi’s video works unfold in an atmosphere that balances between documentary and fiction. These stories, somewhere between the personal and the collective, run parallel to the accepted version of history, but at the same time question it. Oscar Van Den Boogaard once wrote: “In your work I can detect your unique authorship, your imprint, in the glance of an instant. Your short films are little essays about the gaze, the moment and the apparition. (…) And not only that. You are an existentialist. You pose some of the most existential questions there are: Who am I? Who is the other? What is a genuine encounter? What is projection? What is the significance of the gaze? At which point does the other truly appear? Your language is simple and pertinent. Your voice doesn’t speak; it posits. Sentences are laid out one by one. Clear and light. As if it were seen in full light of day.”

Halloubi’s works have an exceptionally suggestive power. He reduces the image to its most elementary form: an image that captures and transforms reality. According to Halloubi, reality is always a construction. In his films, he also uses spoken language to create an additional layer of image.
