A conversation between Oude Kerk’s Marianna van der Zwaag, curator of ‘A Veil as a Glaze’
(25 May – 25 Aug 2024), artist Ana Navas and Mariette Dölle about ways to redefine the dialogue between cultural heritage and contemporary art as a dialogue to make a difference, to draw attention to the inclusions and exclusions that underpin dominant narratives.
For this event, De Appel invited Constanza Mendoza and Giles Bailey, who have been following the process around the exhibition My Garden’s Boundaries Are the Horizon closely, for a performative reading and conversation on January 24, 18:00–19:30. They are going to read the publication My Garden’s Boundaries Are the Horizon: A Porous Reader to Unguard the Garden and transform their interpretation into a collective event where the book serves as a score to be performed.

For this performative reading, the collective To See the Inability to See will explore new threads and possibilities for a collective reading of the publication, placing emphasis on different aspects and particular stories. These elements could complement and enrich the audience’s understanding and interpretation of the show.
