Art can bring time to a halt for a moment and allow us to reflect on the world in which we live. The works in the exhibition Power of Art illustrate a diversity of propositions in regard to this tendency of art. Sometimes an artist’s position directly highlights the phenomena of contemporary life. For instance, Tasio Bidegain and Daniëlle van Ark responded in their work to the recent pandemic that upended our lives. Themes relevant to our times, such as sustainability and climate change, are – directly or indirectly – a point of departure for Krištof Kintera, Christina Lucas and Abel Rodríquez. But art can, on the other hand, also stimulate us to approach life in a different manner or even escape it, laying claim to the power of the imagination, like in the work of Folkert de Jong, Esther Tielemans or Marcel van Eeden. Collectively, these works make evident that art, too, has its own cycle. How that enriches ours is the recurrent theme of this presentation.

With works by Daniëlle van Ark, Tasio Bidegain, Melanie Bonajo, Marcel van Eeden, Rodrigo Hernández, Saskia Noor van Imhoff, Folkert de Jong, Krištof Kintera, Gabriel Lester, Christina Lucas, Abel Rodríguez, Jan Roeland, Esther Tielemans, and more.
