Bradwolff Projects presents “Reclaimed Shapes” by Joanneke Meester
Open during Amsterdam Art Week 30 May – 2 June 2024.
The artist is present every day.
In the intimate space of Bradwolff Projects, ‘Reclaimed Shapes’ by Joanneke Meester spotlights the invisible. The exhibition redefines the rejected material into artworks that not only occupy space but also enrich the mind. Each object, freed from the confusion of consumption, now tells a unique story. The title ‘Reclaimed Shapes’ is more than a simple designation. It stimulates us to think about what naturally already exists and what we surround ourselves with, and what possibilities this may hold.
At the heart of the exhibition, Meester’s wall sculpture ‘Painting’ occupies a special place, where everyday things are given new importance. Uprooted from the urban bustle, each element articulates a new narrative. These transformed objects invite the viewer to reflect on our attitudes to materials and the pattern of use.
For Joanneke Meester, the city of Amsterdam serves as a dynamic studio, a canvas unfolding against the backdrop of the city. Here, her ‘TrashHeal’ sculptures take shape, after which they are introduced on Marktplaats in unexpected categories, questioning our consumption patterns and collective actions. Also on show in the exhibition are the large photographic works ‘All You Need Is Love’ (2024) and ‘Lucky Harness’ (2023). These images capture moments when art and the everyday merge and lure passers-by out of their routine. A documentary featuring several short films reveals the creation of her work, presenting her vision on the fusion of creativity and everyday life.
During the Amsterdam Art Weekend, Bradwolff Projects exclusively presents ‘All You Need Is Love’, a 59 x 80 cm artwork. This edition is limited to no more than 50 unique numbered and signed prints. This work is now available at the special price of €37, a nod to the number Bradwolff Projects occupies on the map of the Amsterdam Art Week.
