Eye Filmmuseum is delighted to invite you to a special Amsterdam Art Week film screening, where Genealogy of Violence will be screened alongside a selection of earlier works by artist Mohamed Bourouissa. The events includes an introduction by Beatrix Ruf, Director of Hartwig Art Foundation and a conversation between Humie Pourseyf (Programmer of the Future, Eye) and Amsterdam-based artist Gilleam Trapenberg.

This special event offers a unique opportunity to discover Bourouissa’s powerful exploration of social dynamics and the human condition, engaging deeply with contemporary issues. With insightful introductions throughout the evening, the screening promises to enrich your understanding of Bourouissa’s creative process and the themes he explores. Bourouissa, born in 1978 in Blida, Algeria, now lives and works in Paris. His work critically examines the complexities of society, exploring the tension between integration and exclusion.

Through photography and film, he challenges the influence of mass media, shedding light on personal stories of struggle and resilience. His latest film, Genealogy of Violence (2024), offers a poignant reflection on the instability of today’s political climate and the shifting nature of opportunity and exclusion. This event will provide you with an intimate look at Bourouissa’s visionary approach to contemporary art and social commentary.

As a special treat, AAW attendees will enjoy a film-inspired menu at a reduced rate before the screening—simply present your entrance ticket to take advantage of this offer.
