Mulan Go warmly invites you to the opening of Spiel at both Christie’s Amsterdam and GoMulan. In collaboration with Christie’s Amsterdam, Mulan Go has organised the dual exhibition Spiel, featuring works by Ulrike Rehm. The exhibitions will run from January 18 until February 23.
Born in 1976, Ulrike Rehm mastered a wide range of techniques through various educational paths. During her initial training in a guild in Michelstadt, she learned traditional woodworking. In 2006, she obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Rietveld Academy, and in 2011, her master’s from the Sandberg Institute. Throughout these years, she focused on creating conceptual works that she combined with her craft-based background. Rehm views the choice of time-intensive craftsmanship as an act of self-determination and a counter-reaction to a society increasingly focused on efficiency. Nearly all her works are created as part of a “one-woman show.” Her work incorporates visual language from East Germany (DDR) traditionally associated with masculinity, yet she uses traditional ‘women’s crafts’ like crocheting or knitting to create the works. The exhibition Spiel explores the wonder of traditions and symbols. By making awards, decorations and a podium of honor, Rehm illustrates how games, traditions, and culture are intricately intertwined.
Note: Both exhibitions can be visited during the opening on the 18th of January and on Thursdays and Fridays. On other days, the opening hours differ between locations. Please, find the opening hours listed below.
