Departure of director Nina Folkersma

Amsterdam Art announces the imminent departure of director Nina Folkersma. Recently, following the evaluation of the last edition, the board, the director, the team and various stakeholders have intensively discussed the future of Amsterdam Art. Nina has concluded that for the next phase in Amsterdam Art’s new direction, she is no longer the right person to lead the organisation and a continuation does not fit within her personal ambitions. As a result, she has decided not to renew her contract at Amsterdam Art with effect from January 2023.

Nina Folkersma: “Over the past two years, I have dedicated myself to Amsterdam Art with great enthusiasm and energy. Both in terms of artistic content, visibility, public outreach, fundraising and cooperation partners, important steps have been taken and change processes initiated to strengthen Amsterdam Art’s position within the ecosystem. I look back with pride and pleasure on two successful editions of Amsterdam Art Week and on the cooperation with my formidable team. After careful consideration, however, I have concluded that my artistic and leadership qualities do not do sufficient justice in this organisation. Therefore, in close consultation with the board, I have decided to leave Amsterdam Art and look for new artistic challenges.”

Board: “The board regrets that Nina will be leaving Amsterdam Art, but understands her decision. We have come to know Nina as a strong substantive leader who has achieved a lot for Amsterdam Art in a short period of time. She has made the organisation more inclusive and managed to involve new partners from all city districts, but also increased Amsterdam Art’s public awareness. We are grateful to Nina for her role and contribution to Amsterdam Art and wish her every success in her next step.”

From January 2023, Martina Halsema will take over the daily management of Amsterdam Art until and including the next edition of Amsterdam Art Week (31 May – 4 June 2023). In the meantime, the board is considering the future composition of the management.
