Artist Robert Glas (b. 1986) will talk about his contribution to the exhibition Identity Cards and Forgeries. The subject of his work is Jacob Lentz (1894-1963), who created the first mandatory identification system in the Netherlands. In 1940 he designed a virtually unforgeable identity card and established a register that included a photograph and fingerprint of every resident of the Netherlands over the age of fourteen.

Robert Glas searched newspapers, libraries, archives and image databases for photographic portraits of Jacob Lentz. Taking his search and the images he found as a starting point, he is working on a series of pieces exploring Lentz’s role in the public debate on identification.
