Marjan Teeuwen, Verwoest Huis Gaza (2016-2017)

What does it mean to be forced to flee your home and become internally displaced? What is the meaning of the word ‘home’ in the context of war, diaspora, exclusion, and displacement? These questions are central to the exhibition HOME, curated by Meta Knol, with the photographic works of Destroyed House Gaza (2016-2017) by Dutch artist Marjan Teeuwen, and video blogs made by Palestinian photographer Ezz Al Zanoon (Ezz Al zanoon Photography) and journalist Rawan Mahady.

From September until October 2016, Marjan Teeuwen stayed in the Gaza strip, part of the occupied Palestinian territories, and created the on-site monumental architectonic installation Destroyed House Gaza. The photography and film that resulted from this project will be shown at Framer Framed from 15 July to 3 September 2017. In the exhibition, curator Meta Knol connects Teeuwen’s project to the broader local context in Gaza.

Photographer and producer Ezz Al Zanoon and journalist Rawan Mahady were invited to create a series of weekly video blogs, which comment on the project Destroyed House Gaza and the local situation in Gaza. Moreover, Mahady and Framer Framed will organize a series of Skype connections between Gaza and Amsterdam, to take place every Sunday during the exhibition. Locally invited guests in Gaza connect from start-up hub Gaza Sky Geeks, opening up for conversation with the public and invited guests at Framer Framed.
