The exhibition Kayelitsha Bonteheuvel is an overview of photo's, films, paintings and projects. A testimonial to decades-long commitment to the fight against AIDS in Africa by Ciska de Hartogh
Visual artist / filmmaker Ciska de Hartogh has been active in the fight against the global AIDS pandemic since the 90s. As a humanitarian aid worker in Rwanda and South Africa, she contributed in setting up one of the most successful AIDS programs in the world; the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town (RCCH) in 1994. The AIDS control project called Thutuzela Abantwana in Xhosa and the local social network Wola Nani in Cape Town has in recent decades as a successful example served for many other AIDS projects worldwide. After having worked for years in the slums, Ciska de Hartogh returned in 2000 to the Netherlands.
