Untitled, 60-85 cm, Oil on canvas, 2014, Arnout Killian

Cut-out Matissian leftovers, bubblewrapped dark monochromes and pieces of black and white tapestry with abstract motifs are the subjects of a new collection by Arnout Killian, evoking the end of modernism. In contrast to movements such as the "Zombie Abstractionists", these paintings employ a muted realism where the style contradicts the subject.

Arnout Killian (Limbricht NL,1969)

Arnout Killian studied at the Rietveld Academy and the Rijksakademie and exhibits regularly in various galleries and museums. He has exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Buro Amsterdam, The Vleeshal in Middelburg and also as part of a special Dutch painting exhibition in the National Arts Club in New York.

Arnout Killian's skill as a painter goes beyond his exceptional technique. With his thought provoking subject matters, there is a slight uneasy strain of what is not there.

You can see more work from Killian the end of May at the first exhibition of the Museum MORE, the brand new museum for modern realism in Gorssel.
