The artist Duncan Hannah (Minneapolis, United States, 1952) is presented in the solo exhibition: 'Love in Amsterdam'. He was educated at Bard College (1971) and moved onwards to New York City. There he met legendary Andy Warhol, who became his mentor, and became part of the notorious The Factory and The Chelsea Hotel.

At first sight his art reminds us about an idyllic world. However, it pretends to be the opposite of it. Instead of peacefulness the depicted scenery is full of underlying anxieties. Hannah’s strength is to put us on the wrong track. When looking at his pictures we want to believe his good intentions of an ideal world. But actually, through his art he wants to restore a long lost idyllic life. This attempt results in unspoiled settings but really deals with an uncanny echo of the past. His style recalls to early twentieth-century American painting and as he states influenced by Walter Sickert.
