Opening 16 Mar

In the early 20th century, DNB's directors acquired many works of art to adorn their offices and reception rooms. Under Wim Duisenberg's presidency, the Art Committee was established in 1982 with the aim of amassing a contemporary art collection to be displayed in the offices of DNB's staff members.
Today, the collection comprises more than 1,250 works. Our aim has shifted from acquiring works to achieving more consistency and depth within the collection. We monitor the composition of the collection on a continuing basis to improve its quality and coherence. Are the works of sufficient quality and is there still place for them in the collection? And the ultimate question is: relish or reject?
The works on exhibit are paintings from the late 19th and early 20th century and etchings depicting cityscapes. We found there is a certain thematic coherence between these paintings. We hope this exhibition will contribute to the discussion of whether these works still have a place in a contemporary collection, and invite you to come and judge for yourself what to do with these old masters in the collection – relish or reject?
