American artist and photographer William Wegman is perhaps most well known for his subtly satirical work with his dogs, a collaboration which began in Los Angeles in the 70s with his Weimaraner Man Ray. Wegman studied painting at the Massachusetts College of Art and the University of Illinois Champagne/Urbana and has continued to paint throughout his career. Wegman was one of the first artists to work with video as an art form, exhibiting his video works since the 70s. Retrospectives of Wegman's work have travelled to museums throughout Europe and the US including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Pompidou Museum in Paris. Wegman makes reference to the history of Minimal, Pop and Conceptual art yet his work is unique in it's broad appeal. "Good Dogs on Nice Furniture," a new body of work, includes images of his dogs posed on classic furniture by Herman Miller, Eames and Nelson.
The gallery will be closed from 21 December until 3 January.
