Conversation 5 Oct

Time 5 Oct, 20:30-22 hrs

The evening of Thursday 5 October will be devoted to the work and working methods of artist Meggy Rustamova in the programme Een ander licht (Another Light), accompanying her solo-exhibition Light Displacement in De Brakke Grond.

This presentation programme will focus on the personal as a starting point for artistic creation, featuring contributions from theatre-maker Julie Cafmeyer, writer Kate Briggs and philosopher Petra Van Brabandt. How does an artist make use of her/his autobiography when creating work, and what can you say about this? What takes place in this shadowy area on the cusp of fact and fiction? And is the personal as a subject still seen as a feminine approach?

a video work by Meggy Rustamova;

a live column by theatre-maker Julie Cafmeyer, who creates productions in which she shares highly personal experiences with the audience in an intimate setting (e.g. A Bombastic Declaration of Love and The Therapy;

a live contribution in the form of text from writer and translator Kate Briggs. She has translated two books by Roland Barthes and wrote This Little Art, an essay on translation. She teaches at the Piet Zwart Institute;

The evening is moderated by philosopher Petra Van Brabandt, who writes about art & feminism, queer art, art & pornography, post-colonialism and idleness.
