In her solo show Gold Coins to the Headsmen Koskentola is reflecting the relationship between the human and the animal. In the show she presents series of interrelated works in different media: video, photography, sculptural work and works on paper, which are exploring dialogical and inclusive relationships, more ethical, material and spiritual connections between the human and its others.

These projects unfold from encounter with a herd of rams, raised for their meat, in Finland. This confrontation led to intensive collaboration and choreography between the artist and these animals. Through the act of blindfolding of both of the co-actors, the human and the animal, the artist examines our position of simultaneously being the producers, products, as well as the victims within the capitalist and the anthropocentric systems, through which we all ultimately end up killing and cannibalizing our selves.

The title Gold Coins to the Headsmen (the title of the video piece in the show) reflects on the old custom, in which the ones to be executed were advised to bribe the headsman (executioner) in order to ensure that he would sharpen his tools, especially if the execution involved decapitation.

Singing/composition in the video work by Jonimatti Joutsijärvi.
