Exhibition & public program

How are digital media, endless storage space and new ways of communicating shaping the way we capture, share and retrieve our personal memories? The things we want to remember, do they still fit in a shoebox or are they floating around somewhere in ‘the cloud’ amongst the thousands of e-mails and images that our external memory can contain nowadays? For one month Things to Remember (Page Not Found) invites artists, speakers and visitors to reflect on this in the former atelier of  Gisèle van Waterschoot van der Gracht (1912 - 2013), who surrounded herself with many objects and personal correspondence during her eventful life, creating a network of tangible memories. Slowly but surely her atelier is currently transforming from a private domain into a space for new exhibitions and public programmes.  In this room work of several artists will be on view, combined with weekly programmes that address how personal memories are transformed by the natural presence of a digital memory - an infinite memory, which still is limited by ‘data rot’ and is partly steered by selective algorithms and commercial interests.
