The opening of Theatre Dreams of a Beautiful Afternoon - Part 2 (a group exhibition by Annet Gelink Gallery) at Manifesta Foundation will be accompanied by a special performance by Meiro Koizumi. The performance is initiated and coordinated by Frans Hals Museum | De Hallen Haarlem on the occassion of Koizumi’s current solo exhibition at the museum (running up till 9 January).
 
In his performance Autopsychobabble (2011 – present), the artist combines live video sampling, voice dubbing and aggressive hand drawings and gestures. This is a reaction to the image of Setsuko Hara, one of the most famous actresses of the Japanese film history, known for her in rendition of the chaste, ‘innocent’ housewife. Koizumi closes off the public by treating it the same way he sees the public regard Hara: as a prisoner of the male fantasy. He creates this way an intense, loaded surrounding that alludes to repression and symbolic violence.
