During Amsterdam Art Week, No Limits! Art Castle will host daily artist talks exploring the intersections of sex, counterculture, and art. These discussions take place in the context of our SEXSHOP ARTSHOW—an art exhibition that mimics a sex shop but exclusively features works by an incredibly diverse range of artists, from local sex worker artists to artists with Down syndrome who love porn.
The SEXSHOP ARTSHOW marks the first exhibition at No Limits! Art Castle’s revolutionary neurodiverse art space in its new location in the Red Light District.
On display will be the works by Bert Sliggers’ extensive erotica collection – a collection he has built up over more than thirty years, ranging from small pieces of paper that only reveal something exciting when folded or held up to the light, to books, drawings and prints. On Wednesday 21 May from 18:00 to 19:00, he will take you through his collection, which he has researched and written several books about. His passion for these collectibles began with a chance find at a flea market.
This unique collection shows not only how sexuality was depicted, but also how it was encoded and hidden through time. It promises to be an evening full of surprises, historical insights and personal anecdotes. Bert Sliggers (1948) is a historian of science. As curator, he was associated with the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, where he organized numerous exhibitions at the intersection of art and science. His work is characterized by a playful curiosity and a keen eye for detail.
