During this studio visit, we will take a look at the work of our ambassador Gilleam Trapenberg (1991), a visual artist born and raised in Curaçao and living in Amsterdam. His photography explores the social reality of his native island and questions the clichés and tropes that often characterise the Caribbean in Western media.
Trapenberg’s work moves between fact and imagination, between home and distance. His images form a personal and critical counterpoint to the tourist paradise, focusing on themes of nostalgia, colonial legacies and identity.
Don’t miss this intimate insight into the creative process of one of today’s most stimulating photographers and visual artists.
