    Brandt Gallery is proud to present the solo exhibition of Charles Pétillon. While the exhibition will not officially open until 13 September, the gallery will open its doors to the public during the opening weekend on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 September, offering a unique opportunity to visit during Gallery Night on Friday 5 September between 17:00 and 20:00.

    Pétillon (born in 1973) is a French artist renowned for his poetic installations and photography, in which he places white balloons in deserted or natural settings. These “balloon invasions” create a quiet, contemplative atmosphere, transforming the everyday into something unexpected and encouraging us to see our surroundings with fresh eyes.

    Lex ter Braak | the Archive of the Alphabet of Lost Order

    The Alphabet of Lost Order consists of an ongoing series of photographs, drawings, collages, and paintings. The Archive is an important facet of it — a collection of both altered and unaltered Polaroids, now numbering more than a thousand images. Ter Braak often paints over a Polaroid in such a way that the photographic and the painted layers merge seamlessly.

    It smells of sweat and jasmine

    It smells of sweat and jasmine addresses labour issues in colonial, contemporary, and diasporic Indonesia through the lens of women and genderqueer artists. Through collecting the artists’ personal histories, experiences, and research, the exhibition traces the complex intersections of patriarchal violence, capitalist labour exploitation, and (neo)colonial plunder.
