Galerie Fons Welters is proud to present 1985-2025, during the Amsterdam Art Week 2025. The exhibition celebrates four decades of contemporary art at the gallery. The opening of the exhibition will be held during Festive Gallery Night on Thursday 22 May between 17:00 and 21:00.
Founded in 1985 on Palmdwarsstraat in the Jordaan and relocating to Bloemstraat in 1989, the gallery has been dedicated to showcasing both emerging and mid-career artists from national and international backgrounds. Over the years, the gallery established itself with a particular focus on installation art and sculptural approaches.
The 1985-2025 exhibition presents new and recent works by a selection of gallery artists, including Adriano Amaral, Tom Claassen, Folkert de Jong, David Jablonowski, Job Koelewijn, Sven Kroner, Matthew Monahan, Femmy Otten, Magali Reus, Maria Roosen, Berend Strik, Jennifer Tee, and Evelyn Taocheng Wang. During the exhibition, the publication Galerie Fons Welters, which highlights the history of the gallery, will be released.
1985-2025 also marks the gallery’s final exhibition. After 40 years, Fons Welters bids farewell to the gallery world. As of September 2025, the gallery will close its doors. Nick Terra, the current director, will open a new gallery at the Bloemstraat location.
