On 18 September at 17:30 we will celebrate the festive opening of a new exhibition at Capital C by Mattijs Werner. Admission is free, but please register via the ticket link.
In 2023, artist Mattijs Werner was diagnosed with a rare genetic eye disease. Within just three months he became almost completely blind. Today, Mattijs can only see faint contours at the edges of his vision; the centre of his sight is entirely obscured by a white mist.
The diagnosis abruptly ended his professional life as a painter. His last portrait commission had to be completed by a friend. It was a period of deep crisis for the Amsterdam-based artist, yet, against all odds, he found his way back to art.
Opening by Jasper Krabbé
With the support of family, friends, and acquaintances, this dream has now become reality. From 18 September, Mattijs’s work will be on view at Capital C. The opening of this special exhibition will be conducted by Jasper Krabbé.
A new clientele
All works in the exhibition are for sale. With this show, Mattijs hopes to build a flourishing network of collectors and clients—from private art lovers to corporate buyers such as hotels, property developers, and managers of public buildings, for whom his work is particularly well suited.
