During the AAW 2024 opens in the gallery the solo exhibition ‘Strange Glow’ by James Beckett. ‘Strange Glow’ is primarily an exercise in compacting disparate sources – a play on the associative and nonsensical. As assemblage, these pieces feature backdrops of architectural reproduction, super-imposed with seemingly random objects and extracts from the news . The exhibition is an extension on Becketts earlier ‘Strange Glow’ presentation. James Beckett (ZA/NL) 1977, Harare Zimbabwe, was resident at the Rijksakademie (2001-2002) after which he won the Prix de Rome for Art in Public Space. His works are in the public collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Centre Pompidou, Paris, amongst others. Currently lives and works in New York and Amsterdam. The opening of the exhibition is Thursday 30 May. The exhibition is on view until 13 July.
