Buildings (and rooms) are at the heart of the ticking of time. Always existing in relation to passing clouds, rotations of days, seasons, social and political reality, or aesthetic fancies. They are dressed in costumes of time, whilst being truly indifferent to its passing. Thus, what comes from one century to the next, visually unchanged, commands respect precisely for this lack of inscription and quietness in relation to the drama of unceasing change.
Taking the former WG medical complex as backdrop — specifically the women’s psychiatric ward, where the exhibition space is now located — the show brings together a set of found and fabricated objects into dialogue with the layered histories of the site, the many successive worlds it has witnessed and their everlasting effects on the present.
Conceived as a form of morphing hospital room or communal space — a heterotopia at once abstract and charged with human gestures — the exhibition hints at the intimate or collective psychological territories of the site’s former and current inhabitants, patients, staff, and visitors. Fragments of the outside world — traces of its turmoil, ruptures, and tensions — foaming at the shore of the hospital’s daily life.
