The galleries are back. Here’s where to start.
Friday 4 September brings a wave of openings across the city. Maria Roosen’s ‘EXPRESS’ opens at AKINCI, while Working Title hosts Jade Van Doesburg & Baroeg Mulder’s ‘A Good Hard Look’. m.simons opens ‘Come On, Play It Again‘, Vriend van Bavink Gallery presents Jeroen Henneman’s ‘Een Overzicht’ — his first major Amsterdam solo in eight years — and No Limits! Art Castle opens ‘Plucking the Broom’. Raffael Bader’s landscape-driven ‘Places of Wild Things’ opens at Enari Gallery, Bradwolff & Partners presents new work by Pieke Bergmans and herman de vries, and Lumen Travo opens the group show ‘Four Legs Good, Two Legs Bad!’, inspired by Animal Farm. ‘The Nature of Remembering’ opens at W139, and Arti et Amicitiae presents ‘After Destruction’.
Saturday 5 September keeps the pace. Josilda da Conceição presents ‘The Bear Prefers to Remain Silent’, framing the cave as both shelter and archive. CBK Zuidoost opens ‘Cahaya Maluku’, marking 75 years of Moluccan presence in the Netherlands. South Asian Contemporary Art Amsterdam hosts Riyas Komu’s ‘Upon Us After’. Galerie Fontana highlights raw botanical pigments and tactile woven wool in Claudy Jongstra’s ‘An Encounter: Materials, Nature and Time’. GRIMM opens Robert Zandvliet’s ‘Paradaidha’, Slewe Gallery presents Paul Drissen’s ‘Ama’, and No Man’s Art Gallery shows Marilyn Sonneveld’s ‘The Black Bird Was Singing, the Light Was Bright’. You’ll also find Margaret Lansink’s ‘Echoes’ at Bildhalle, ‘Black Well, White Gold’ at Caroline O’Breen, Upstream Gallery’s triple opening with Jan Robert Leegte, Rafaël Rozendaal and Nestor Siré, and new openings at Galerie Dudokdegroot, Depth of Field, tegenboschvanvreden and Stigter Van Doesburg.
The momentum continues into the following week. Friday 11 September brings Framer Framed’s ‘Secret Arts Teachers’, de Appel’s ‘Lapdogs of the Bourgeoisie 2026’, and the Stedelijk Museum’s Yayoi Kusama. Annet Gelink Gallery presents David Maljković’s seventh solo, while Galerie Ron Mandos shows Zanele Muholi’s ‘Hlanganani’.
On Saturday 12 September, Treehouse NDSM presents ‘Temporary Home Windows’ and Galerie Fleur & Wouter opens Fiona Lutjens’ ‘Underwater Aftermath’.
