The Indictment – Les Citoyens Actifs / Le Colloque
In Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial, artists Ehsan Fardjadniya and Raul Balai work on an indictment of the municipality of Amsterdam. They demand that the city fulfil its ethical and legal obligations towards undocumented migrants. The project, which leads to a public trial in late October 2025 (when the city celebrates its 750th anniversary), is presented in several chapters.
The fifth chapter, The Indictment, is presented in several parts at the Brakke Grond. In Les Citoyens Actifs in the White Room, the artists created an interactive installation. Within the installation, experiences of undocumented people are shared, and visitors are asked to actively think and write their own indictment. Les Citoyens Actifs can be seen until 28 February.
On 28 February, the concluding event of chapter five will take place: the theatrical symposium Le Colloque. This will bring together all the collected testimonies and other insights from the entire month. During this symposium, the charges will be formed for the public trial at the end of October. This will be done in collaboration with lawyers, undocumented migrants and the public.
Edgelanders: Amsterdam On Trial – The Indictment / Les Citoyens Actifs is free to visit until 28 February, Tuesday – Sunday, between 12:00 and 17:00, and in the evening around performances and events.
