IN DEBT is a cultural non-profit organization dedicated to creating physical and conceptual spaces while bridging cultural islands. Through exhibitions, gatherings, and city-wide locations, IN DEBT challenges traditional art world conventions.
Above all, IN DEBT is a mindset. We believe meaningful work grows out of care, initiative, and exchange. Our program focuses on emerging practices that cross discipline boundaries. By building these spaces, we keep art and culture an active part of the urban environment while fostering a stronger community.
The name IN DEBT works on two levels. On an individual level, it speaks to the material precarity, and debt many artists face. On a societal level, it acknowledges a broken system carrying ethical, ecological, and historical debts. We are all “indebted” to take responsibility and we choose to do so through culture.
