Starting from 16 December at 18:00, fifteen Amsterdam galleries will jointly organise the first edition of When the Lights Go Out, each showcasing a light installation which can be visible from outside.
Most galleries close their doors for a short break for the holidays, the lights go out for a while. Not so at 15 galleries in the Jordaan.
From 16 December to 6 January 2024, the lights of many works of art will go on for the project When the lights go out. The galleries will remain closed, but light sculptures, films or objects lit in a special way can be seen from the street. When the lights go out is a cultural walk through the city in the dark days of December, a way to get acquainted with light art and thus take some extra steps during the less active holiday season. The entire walk is 8000 steps!
The opening is on Saturday 16 December from 18:00 and there will be glühwein!
From 16 December – 23 December the works will be on view outside gallery opening hours, from 23 December to 6 January the works will be on permanent display.
