On Saturday 5 September, culture sniffers hosts two walking tours through the city.
- Early afternoon tour (13:00 – 15:30): Starting along the Lijnbaansgracht, where m.simons, AKINCI, and Lumen Travo sit within minutes of each other, the route continues to Bradwolff & Partners and Josilda da Conceição, ending at Working Title for drinks and mingling.
- Late afternoon tour (16:30 – 18:30):A vibrant gallery crawl from Enari and Madé van Krimpen, before heading straight into the heart of the Hazenstraat to discover Depth of Field, Galerie Caroline O’Breen, and Stigter van Doesburg.

Let us introduce – Catriona Reid
In this new item, we introduce the people we work with, those shaping Amsterdam’s contemporary art scene. This month, we introduce Catriona Reid, founder of culture sniffers, with whom we partner for the two tours in September.
Born in Victoria, Canada, Catriona moved to Amsterdam in 2023 and fell fully for the city’s art scene during Amsterdam Art Week 2024. With a decade of experience across commercial galleries, non-profits, and fine art advisory, she launched culture sniffers in August 2025, drawing on the welcoming, low-barrier ethos of her local run club: “a run club, but for art people,” connecting audiences with artists, museums, and galleries through tours, talks, and events.
It has quickly become part of the city’s cultural fabric, and will shift to a membership model this autumn. Here, she talks about a run that grounds her, the tattoo she doesn’t regret, and what she’s watching for during this year’s Amsterdam Art Week.
Three places that have shaped how you see art:
The studio of Toronto-based artist Sophia Laprès. Kröller-Müller Museum. My friends’ living rooms—they have great art collections.
What can’t you stop thinking about right now, and why?
I’m really excited for our panel talk (and other programming) that will be part of Amsterdam Art Week this year. It’s been a goal of mine to collaborate with AA long before I started culture sniffers. I also can’t wait to see Chez Matisse at the H’ART Museum, which opens on 3 October. And yes, before you ask, I do have a Matisse tattoo on my arm, and yes, I surrender fully to the basic art history girl allegations.
What is the most important risk you’ve taken in your work?
Moving to the Netherlands. And starting far before I felt ready.
Who or what do you keep returning to for inspiration?
The run I do along the ocean on Dallas Road when I’m back in my hometown of Victoria, British Columbia. It’s a route I’ve been running my whole life. It makes me nostalgic, and each time I come back to it I’m at a different stage in my life; it shows me how far I’ve come and also how much more I still want to accomplish. What are you most looking forward to encountering during Amsterdam Art Week this year?
I’m most curious to see the new locations of both Enari and GRIMM, and how they approach their programmes in these spaces for Art Week. When I first moved to Amsterdam, I visited these two galleries a lot, so it’s exciting to see them evolve.
